Schools

In 2009, TEACH South Africa placed TEACH Ambassadors at schools in Katlehong, Thokoza and Vosloorus, in the Ekurhuleni South District, Gauteng.

For the 2010 academic year, the TEACH Programme expanded to more schools in Ekurhuleni, the Western Cape and to two schools within the Historic Schools Restoration Programme in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo.

While the majority of the schools with TEACH Ambassadors is public, TEACH values its partnership with the LEAP Maths and Science schools.

It is intended that schools that form part of the initiative will also receive additional resource support through TEACH South Africa partnerships in order to enhance their teaching environment. Areas that will be addressed include:

  • Infrastructure: e.g., upgrading of security gates and fences, maintenance of toilets, establishment of media centres
  • Teaching and learning needs: e.g., feeding schemes for orphaned and vulnerable children, text books and learning materials, governance training
