TEACH Ambassadors in Limpopo
by TEACH South AfricaTEACH Ambassadors often comment on how their experience within local schools has changed their life perspective. Tinashe Gumbo, recently posted to a school in Limpopo, together with colleague Saymore Ndou, commented, “Being a TEACH South Africa Ambassador is the best thing that has happened to me.
“I would like to think life is not all about fast cars and mansions. I suppose it’s all about what people would remember you for. It’s important to do something that would positively impact a life.”
Saymore and Tinashe have been placed at Lemana High School in Limpopo, a historic school located in the small town of Elim, 80 kilometres northeast of Polokwane. Lemana has 960 learners and 42 educators. Tinashe teaches English and Life Orientation and Saymore teaches Maths and Physics.
Tinashe prides himself on “being able to inspire the learners in my classes to speak English all the time”, commenting on how “their English has improved though constant practice.” But it isn’t only the Lemana learners who have grown: “I have been part of the arts and culture group,” says Tinashe, “and we have accompanied our learners to several competitions in and around our district.
This has made me familiar with the Venda and Tsonga culture, which is very interesting.”
TEACH South Africa was part of a career exhibition held in the province on Mandela Day, July 18. Saymore and Tinashe were part of the event in Giyani, and had a chance to meet the Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande and Education MEC Dickson Masemola.
