Partnering with LEAP Maths and Science Schools
by TEACH South AfricaThe LEAP initiative grew from the vision of John Gilmour, a former headmaster at Cape Town’s Pinelands High School. Gilmour initiated a tutoring programme for township schools in 1989, where, under his direction, Pinelands High teachers gave disadvantaged learners extra lessons in English, Mathematics and Science.
In partnering with LEAP Maths and Science School, TEACH South Africa can now tap into a wealth of experience in delivering these disciplines to educationally disadvantaged learners. Four TEACH Ambassadors recently joined the two LEAP Schools based in Johannesburg and the Western Cape. This is the first time TEACH South Africa has sent teachers into LEAP schools.
TEACH South Africa Chief Executive Officer Deidre Penfold says: “This is a very valuable partnership, which we hope represents the start of a long-term relationship with LEAP schools.”
